About the role

We are seeking an experienced and grounded Yoga Therapist to design and deliver individual or small group, body-based sessions that support clients experiencing anxiety, stress, trauma, and emotional overwhelm.

This role sits within a multidisciplinary psychology practice and is designed to complement (not replace) psychological therapy. You will work alongside psychologists to deliver structured, evidence-informed, somatic-based group programs that help clients build nervous system regulation, body awareness, and practical self-regulation skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and facilitatesmall group yoga therapy / somatic-based sessions(up to 4 participants)
  • Deliver structured, progressive programs (rather than casual drop-in classes)
  • Adapt practices to suit clients with: Anxiety; Trauma histories; Chronic pain; Chronic illnesses; Chronic stress and burnout
  • Maintain a trauma-informed, psychologically safe environment
  • Work within a clearly defined scope of practice, complementing psychological care
  • Liaise with treating psychologists where appropriate to support continuity of care
  • Monitor and respond appropriately to client distress or dysregulation in sessions
  • Maintain clear, appropriate session records (non-clinical) where required

Scope of practice

This role does not involve diagnosing or treating mental health conditions.

The Yoga Therapist will:

  • Provide body-based, psychoeducational, and physical skills-focused interventions
  • Support nervous system regulation and somatic awareness
  • Work collaboratively within treatment plans led by registered psychologists
  • Hold a formal Yoga Therapy qualification (training that included practicums)
  • Have a minimum of 2+ years teaching experience and substantial teaching hours
  • Be currently registered with a recognised professional body (e.g. Yoga Australia or equivalent)
  • Maintain current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance
  • Hold current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Demonstrate ability to work within professional boundaries and scope

Highly desirable

  • International certification (e.g. IAYT or equivalent)
  • Additional training in:
    • Nervous system / polyvagal-informed approaches
  • Experience working in:
    • Healthcare or mental health settings
    • Multidisciplinary teams
    • Experience delivering structured group programs (not just open classes)

  • Ability to communicate in a clear, non-jargon, non-spiritualised way
  • Comfortable working with clients experiencing distress without overstepping scope
  • Collaborative and open to feedback within a clinical environment
